Sir, - I am planning to write a history of the life and career of the Dublin flower painter Moyra Barry (1885-1960) and would like to hear from anyone who can supply information about her.
Moyra studied at the RHA schools and at the Slade School in London. She also spent three years in Ecuador teaching English and art. Aside from this she lived the rest of her life in Palmerston Road, Rathmines.
The past president of the RHA, the late Dermod O'Brien, considered her the finest flower painter of her generation, although she was equally capable in the fields of landscape and portraiture. Her paintings (oil and watercolour) are mostly in private collections, and I would particularly like to hear from anyone who owns any of her work. All correspondence will be treated as strictly confidential. - Yours, etc.,
Jane Eckett, 6 Belgrave Place, Rathmines, Dublin 6.
