Sir, John McManus (December 30th) suggests that having saved £119m servicing the national debt, Minister Quinn will use this money to reduce taxation or increase spending in the next Budget.
How can this be? The country is in debt to the tune of £30 billion. The cost of servicing this debt is over £2 billion a year. To make matters worse, the debt is rising by £1 billion each year.
Surely the money saved would be better spent reducing the debt than funding give always. Yours, etc., Oaktree Avenue, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
