Sir, - David Andrews's elucidation of the forthcoming Nice Treaty for "most of the public" would be wonderful if it were all true. The "institutional minutiae" key for me as a member of the aforementioned group is the eventual loss of our voting veto to a system where there is one of a weighted majority. This opens the floodgates to mandatory legalisation for abortion, euthanasia, conscription for aggressive purposes, sublimation of national interests of various kinds.
I will give David Andrews credit for one thing. He is the first public person in his group to honestly admit that EU enlargement would, predictably, be for the benefit of established Western business, not the other way around as his colleagues have claimed.
