Sir, - once again an Irish politician, the President herself, tells Europeans that it would be wrong to see Ireland's vote as a rejection of EU enlargement.
Why so? The most common No-campaign poster in Dublin and around the country was, from my experience, the one saying "You will lose - power, money, freedom!"
While I am not sure what freedom is referred to, two of those three points are clearly anti-enlargement.
Of course, Ireland would lose relative power in an enlarged union, and of course, its new-found affluence would lead to Ireland contributing to EU funds, once poorer East European states join.
So, the no-campaign did use anti-enlargement arguments, and it won. What's the use in hiding that? - Yours, etc.,
Heinrich Hall, Chania Crete, Greece. (usually Dublin).
