Madam, - Congratulations to the three students with disabilities who all graduated at DCU on November 4th and what a fantastic, positive front-page photograph you carried next day.
Féach, which is the association which supports the education, training and communication needs of visually impaired pupils, celebrates most especially with Emma Tracey who is blind and a shining beacon of hope and encouragement.
After many years of uncertainty regarding the future educational provision for blind and visually impaired girls, we were delighted to learn last week that applications from girls are now being accepted in Saint Joseph's Primary School for the Blind as well and Community School Rosmini, Drumcondra. Until recently these schools were for boys only.
With girls now welcome to the two schools which have special provision and resources for teaching blind and visually impaired pupils, along with badly needed improved support systems for pupils attending mainstream schools, we could well have more smiling faces on the front page of The Irish Times. - Yours, etc.,
PATSY ASHE, Chairperson, Féach, Main Street, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
