A chara, - History will record many good things about this Government. It will mention the EU Constitution, the North and the Celtic Tiger.
But I will remember my mother in pain trying to sleep on a hospital trolley in Tallaght last week, with all the noise, lights and lack of privacy that entailed. I will remember the rows of sick people, some elderly, lying on trolleys in the crammed corridor leading to the car park, and the resignation and fear on their faces, all waiting for a hospital bed to become free. And I will wonder why, when we were at our richest, the Government failed those who needed it most.
A hospital bed for the sick is a basic human right, not an optional extra. I salute the courage of the Byrne family. - Is mise,
HEATHER JONES, Dargle Wood, Dublin 16.
