Sir, – Papal nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown (Home News, November 27th) suggested that Irish Catholics need to ask why it is that “Prior generations were able to pass their faith in situations of extreme hardship – in time of persecution, famine and even forced emigration – while in our own time of relative comfort and ease the faith is not always handed on”.
May I respectfully say to the nuncio and as someone who was reared in a family of 14 – all Catholic – and also as someone who was rearing his own children in the faith of my previous generations, that I don’t believe our church leaders, nor would I ever again, due to the all the abuse scandals, cover-ups and financial scandals, etc. Wake up, archbishop, and look out into the real world. – Yours, etc,
