Sir, – The pay package for the HSE chief is €425,000 per annum. The chief executive of England’s National Health Service’s pay is £195,000 (€226,000).
England’s population is about 58 million, Ireland’s population is 4.9million.
This means that everyone in Ireland is paying about 22 times as much to fund the HSE chief's pay package than our English friends. And in absolute terms our HSE boss is paid 88 per cent more than his English counterpart.
With this sort of madcap pay for administrators, it’s no wonder that we can’t afford to fill all the vacant medical positions in the country.
