Sir, - I am appalled that our trade union leadership has failed to make a strong stand and demand that all workers who were tax compliant in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s should be compensated in full in the form of a tax rebate. Everybody now knows that saints, fools, and the PAYE drudges paid their taxes while the scroungers laughed all the way to the banks.
Corruption after corruption, scandal after scandal, should put the trade union movement on notice that the time is now right to call for a State-wide one-day protest to demand that each and every penny is given back to the real people of Ireland.
History will judge the present union leadership harshly if they fail to make a stand soon. How many more outrageous revelations are we expected to go through before they say enough is enough? - Yours, etc.,
Michael Killeavy, Clonminch Lane, Tullamore, Co Offaly.
