A chara, - As a Leaving Cert student, I found Ruth Borland's article "How I got 600 points" hugely objectionable (Leaving Cert Study Guide, March 13th). Her schooling in the Institute of Education, a grind school, was obviously a major factor in her success.
Grind schools are an advantage many students in Ireland enjoy, yet most Irish students cannot afford this luxury.
The article inadvertently highlights the inequality in the Irish education system.
One can seemingly pay for extra success in the Leaving Cert examination. This abhorrent situation now seems to have been endorsed by The Irish Times. - Is mise,
