Sir, – Why must so many middle-aged Irish people embarrass themselves at pop concerts?
I recently went to see the Pet Shop Boys at the Bord Gáis Theatre in Dublin. A generally enjoyable gig for real Pet Shop Boys fans, yet the performance was disrupted by a procession of people going to the toilet because they did not recognise enough of the playlist, a sea of mobile cameras waving in my face (despite the theatre’s advance announcement about no recording), and the derailment of the encore by the “chorus hits only” crowd. The band had to actually restart one of its best songs to try and make sense of it all.
Perhaps such audiences are better suited to a Garth Brooks concert or a GAA match?
What have I done to deserve this? Indeed. – Yours, etc,
