Madam, - As a resident of the Tara/Skryne valley I feel compelled to write to you regarding the proposed new motorway and how exasperated I feel reading about the objections to same in the name of architectural preservation etc.

I live on the N3 and every day am faced with the increasingly perilous challenge of driving in and out of my gateway with two young children in the back of the car.

I feel that if these objectors realised how lethally dangerous this road has become they would not object quite so vociferously to its proposed replacement. Their assertion that a realignment of the existing N3 is all that is needed would be laughable were it not so appallingly inaccurate.

If these people have genuine doubts as to the need of a motorway I would like to invite any or all of them to drive in and out of my gateway and see how it feels to take your life in your hands trying to cross a road.

I note that in all these lines being written about architectural preservation, historical significance etc., nobody has mentioned accidents being avoided or lives being saved, which is why this motorway is being built in the first place.

I, for one, would rather have fewer architectural sites and a safer road to travel on.

I appeal to these objectors to drop their opposition to this proposed plan and their threat to legally challenge its construction.

Ultimately, the delay caused by these will only lead to more injuries and deaths on this road. - Yours, etc.,
