Sir, - On a recent visit home, I was appalled to read that the Lakes of Killarney have been closed to the public this year, due to the toxic effects of algal bloom pollution. Why has this been allowed to happen to one of Ireland's most famous tourist attractions?

Phosphate pollution, from a number of sources, is blamed for the excessive algal growth. What is being done to reduce the phosphate loading on the lake ecosystem? If nothing is being done, then why not? Don't we care? - Yours, etc.,
