Madam, - The recent policy paper produced by the Heritage Council, Conserving Ireland's Maritime Heritage, includes "Protection of Coastal Landscapes and promotion of sustainable tourism". As a summer resident in Clogga, south of Arklow, I have watched one of the most prominent landscape features on the east coast - "Arklow Rock" - gradually disappearing as the nearby Roadstone quarry expands. In recent days an Ordinance Survey trigonometry point marking the summit of the rock has been removed.
Who is going to implement all these much publicised policy statements? I wonder: could the Sugar Loaf be next to fall to the Celtic Tiger? - Yours, etc
