A chara, - In the RTE1 television programme Elections 99 on Monday, June 14th, Dr Martin Mansergh, advisor to Mr Ahern, said that none of those opposed to the Stormont Agreement of April 10th, 1998, was returned in the local elections in the 26 counties.

Again in The Irish Times of June 21st Niall O'Dowd, publisher of the Irish Voice weekly in New York, writes of "the wipe-out of Republican Sinn Fein candidates".

How, then, do two well-informed commentators ignore the re-election of Republican Sinn Fein candidate Sean Lynch to serve a fourth term on Longford County Council, of which he is a former chairperson?
