Sir, – Ultan Ó Broin (July 4th) is annoyed at the use of “hosepipe” rather than “hose”. Ronan Scanlan (July 5th) wonders why it is necessary to include the word “pan” when offering fried chicken in restaurants. I am always surprised to read about drivers “reversing backwards”.
