Sir, - Mary McKay misses the point entirely (April 3rd) in the present controversy about road ramps. Nobody doubts their role in reducing speed. The issue, however, is that they are now being installed in housing estates through which cars drive at peak traffic times, moving at slow speeds. Given the choice between being stuck in traffic on a main road and a detour through an estate, the driver will opt for the detour, ramps or no ramps.
A more innovative solution needs to be adopted to keep these areas free from commuter traffic. - Yours, etc., Rhoda Heywood Jones,
