Sir, – I refer to Bernice Harrison’s article on RTÉ’s new season television schedule (Home News, August 11th).
She states: “The new season’s arts coverage is very poor . . .” With respect, this is to state the glaringly obvious, as RTÉ’s arts coverage is historically poor and on occasion non-existent. The least-documented section of our society by RTÉ is our culture and if you remember, that’s the section of our society that waves the flag for us in the world on a regular basis and the one we’re all so proud of. I have watched as peers and colleagues in my chosen discipline of the visual arts have passed away and RTÉ has no documentation on them with which to pay homage to their contribution to our culture.
Poor is not the right word; “pathetic” would be more accurate. – Yours, etc,
