Sir, - The letter from Orla Nolan (September 25th) was one of the best I have read in your pages. It should be printed in poster format and hung on the walls of every classroom in the country. It offers a far more succinct and truthful portrait of what our country is than the Easter Proclamation, for example, ever aspired to. Children could usefully be set to learning it off by heart. Perhaps it could also be issued with Bord Failte brochures so tourists could know the real truth about Ireland.
What sickness is in the Irish soul that its soil has produced such impoverished, money-minded grubs? Isn't it time we had a day of mourning for what we might have been? - ours, etc.,
Tom Quinn, Lower Kimmage Road, Dublin 6W.
