Madam, - Sorcha O'Brien is to be congratulated for her comprehensive article on Sam Maguire (Features, February 5th). Coming from a family related to the Maguires, I have had a lifelong interest in Sam's life and career.
On winning the All-Ireland in the 1960s the Co Down team visited his birthplace and the occasion brought Sam's identity to public attention, not before time.
Assuming his home is not beyond restoration, I suggest it be turned into a museum.
I am confident the public would respond generously to an appeal for the necessary funds. Sam's name is now immortal in the annals of the GAA and the least it could do in his honour is to set the ball rolling. - Yours, etc.,
