Sir, - It was with interest and admiration that I read Gerhard Schroder's comments on the Serbian people (The Irish Times, June 21st). Having spent the past year researching for an M.Litt. based on the humanitarian activities by the Bishop of Chichester, William Beveridge and Victor Gollancz in the immediate aftermath of the second World War on behalf of the German people, I am heartened that a leader of Germany has the foresight not to demonise a whole race because of the actions of an evil regime. - Yours, etc., Laurence Kavanagh,
