Sir, - The positive and appreciative remarks on Islamic Sharia Law expressed in "Thinking Anew" by F. MacE. (The Irish Times, April 15th) has caught our attention and is welcomed by the Islamic community here. The article correctly highlights the importance of mercy and forgiveness in the Sharia - a point so commonly overlooked by other commentators.
Indeed, the daily prayers so familiar to all Muslims begin by invoking the mercy and forgiveness of the One, True God. Would that we all, with God's help, could bring those qualities more into play in our personal lives. What a richer and happier society we would have. -Yours, etc.,
