Sir, – Sinn Féin has a fraction of the democratic mandate enjoyed by the “Yes” parties. Gerry Adams will use RTÉ’s broadcast of his upcoming ard-fheis speech to argue for a “No” vote in the referendum on the fiscal treaty. RTÉ says it will subsequently allow to the Yes campaign an amount of time equal to that which Mr Adams devotes to “No” in his speech.
Surely, if democracy means anything to our molly-coddled public broadcaster, the compensatory time allowed to the Yes campaign should reflect its dramatically greater democratic mandate. – Yours, etc,
