Madam, - I read with sadness about the dire state of one of our oldest football clubs, Shamrock Rovers, (The Irish Times, April 12th). Surely some of our very successful businessmen who already invest in football clubs outside this country could save this club from ruin?
How sad it is (and most of us are guilty) that we spend millions supporting clubs in England and beyond, by attending live matches and buying their merchandise, yet we choose to ignore our own home clubs who offer up some very good football week after week.
Maybe the time has come, when buying replica kits for our children, to "shop local". - Yours, etc.,
