Sir, - I commend Kevin Myers on the moral clarity of his thinking and writing and would like to add a speculative query to his Irishman's Diary of January 9th. Sinn Féin has been vocal in its criticism of the RUC in relation to the Omagh bombing.
The RUC, and now the PSNI, are conducting an investigation into this heinous crime and are attempting to see justice done. In contrast, Sinn Féin has refused to assist the investigation. Is the criticism an indication that it is changing its stance or does it still believe that there are "historical as well as contemporary reasons why [Sinn Féin] could not encourage republicans to assist the RUC in its investigation" (The Irish Times, April 11th, 2000)? - Yours, etc.,
G. O'NEILL,
Dublin 11.
