Sir, - In the past decade extensive renovation of public houses in Ireland has been undertaken and generous Government grants have been handed out to the country's publicans. In order to qualify for these grants, there was a requirement for air conditioning to be installed. Unfortunately once the grants were paid over, many publicans did not bother turning on/maintaining their systems.
Assuming Michael McGuire's local pub (April 29th) is included in the above category, perhaps on his next visit he could generate an interesting conversation with the owner on this subject. - Yours, etc., James Delaney. Abbeyfield, Killester, Dublin 5.
