Sir, – As the Road Safety Authority's stated aim is to save lives, and speed cameras are placed close to the scene of past accidents to prevent future accidents by causing drivers to slow down, shouldn't Padhraic Mulpeter (Letters, July 27th) be congratulating the drivers who flash their lights for helping to slow down traffic at these dangerous places?
As I understand it, to improve safety there are camera signs by the side of the road before the camera van, and big camera signs on the vans. The flashing of headlights by motorists adds a third stimulus to slow down in dangerous areas.
– Yours, etc,
DAVID DOYLE
