Sir, – I read Declan Hughes's review of John Connolly's new book A Time of Torment (Weekend Review, April 9th) thinking to myself that "I've never read one of Connolly's books so if this review is positive I'll give it a look". Sadly the reviewer ran through what seemed like the entire plot from start to finish, effectively removing any potential surprises from this "thriller".
My advice to Declan Hughes if asked to review a book in the future would be to describe the work, not summarise it. It kind of spoils the fun for the reader. – Yours, etc,
