Madam, – The lord mayor of Limerick and Willie O’Dea are campaigning to have Limerick pubs opened on Good Friday. They are basically saying the Irish are not capable of enjoying a game of rugby while sober. This is an insult to the Irish people and to the game of rugby.
I hope the people of Limerick and Ireland will stop apologising for the fact that we acknowledge and respect the sacrifice Jesus made on Calvary.
Thirty pieces of silver did not make Judas any happier and 30 million on Good Friday will not make Limerick any happier. There are an awful lot of other things to do when visiting Limerick. Who knows, the city might even benefit more financially on the day, if people do a bit of sober thinking and spending. – Yours, etc,
