Madam, - The United Nations has just revealed that 75 per cent of the population of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are under nourished. A startling statement, given that the people of this nation have already suffered extraordinary trauma in recent years.
The battle for the Congo's natural resources - gold, diamonds and coltan - involves seven neighbouring countries, led by Uganda and Rwanda. Since it began in 1998, as many as five million innocent lives have been lost.
What will it take for the international community to sit up and take its responsibilities to the vulnerable people of the Congo seriously? - Yours etc.,
