Sir, – Karlin Lillington writes that “preventing unwanted surveillance done outside European legal frameworks would be extraordinarily difficult for Europe” (“Some European states likely to put pressure on US over breaches of citizens’ privacy”, Opinion & Analysis, July 4th).
What applies for the Continent of Europe applies also to the rest of us. Karlin Lillington’s views notwithstanding, snoopers will not “have a much harder time in years to come”.
All of us should, therefore, behave online as if we were going to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
