Sir, - There is a simple solution to the car tax problems mentioned by Paul Murray (letters, March 20th). Scrap all the current taxes and proposed tolls. Replace them with a levy of equivalent value on the price of fuel. The advantages should be obvious.
Cost of collection - nil.
No defaulters - big saving in police time.
The tax would be progressive - the more you drive, the bigger your car, the heavier your right foot, the more you pay. - Yours, etc.,
