Sir, – After almost a year of hard training, rising at 5.30am, six mornings a week, the Kildare team lost out against Donegal in this weekend’s quarter-finals in Croke Park.
It would be fair to say this particular match was not their best, but they did not go out due to lack of effort but mainly due to ambiguous rules regarding the “square-ball” phenomenon.
In this era of high technology, instead of depending upon an umpire, a digital camera, strategically placed, could decide immediately whether a “square-ball” incident had occurred or not.
It is very frustrating for a team on two occasions this season to find themselves losing out due to this rule, and especially when the RTÉ cameras, last Saturday, showed quite clearly that the latest occasion was not a “square-ball” incident. – Yours, etc,
