The Dáil on holidays

Madam, - Desmond Fitzgerald and Dr Mait Ó Faoláin miss the main points of my argument (Letters July 23rd)

Madam, - Desmond Fitzgerald and Dr Mait Ó Faoláin miss the main points of my argument (Letters July 23rd). They obviously do not understand our day job as TDs.

During the first three weeks of July we on the Justice Committee dealt with 330 amendments on the Immigration Residence and Protection Bill 2008. We also dealt with constituency matters.

I am not looking for a gold medal, as it is part of my job. I do object, however, to cynical comments about so-called long holidays. Most TDs, senators and ministers take the same holidays as everyone else. It is easy to be a "hurler on the ditch". - Yours, etc,

FINIAN McGRATH, TD, Dáil Éireann, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
