Sir, – I believe the referendum on abolition of the Seanad is proceeding with undue haste.
The debate should be about how Ireland is governed; the many necessary reforms needed in Dáil Éireann; and the holding of the government to account by the Dáil.
If such reforms were implemented, those proposing abolition could demonstrate the superfluous nature of the Seanad, and we could all vote, being properly informed.
The Government should have learned from recent referendums that the electorate cannot be taken for granted with a shoddy campaign. – Yours, etc,
