Madam, - I was amused at Flann Ó Riain's optimism (January 11th) regarding the Irish language qualifications of the new head of RTÉ Radio 1. I suspect that such top-level knowledge of Irish will not prevent the "mangling" of "words, titles and phrases in that language".
I assume that previous holders of the post had, among other qualifications, a knowledge of the English language. In no way has this prevented broadcasters mangling words, titles and phrases in that language. - Yours, etc,
