Sir, – On the same day that the Government announces a €2.25 billion stimulus package to create specific jobs in the economy, PayPal in Dundalk states that it will have to recruit 500 of the recently announced 1,000 jobs from outside Ireland due to our language skills shortage.
Is it too much to ask for a government that would take a macro outlook, and rather than announcing specific “shovel ready” projects to great fanfare and publicity would take the long- term low-key decisions to invest in skills and therefore more sustainable jobs in the future? – Yours, etc,
