Madam, - I agree with Greg Carley (June 30th): there is far too much confusion already about this State's name. Living in Britain, I have frequently had to correct people who call it Éire (but pronounce it "Air"), and I recently noticed that some of the official UK government websites now refer to the "Irish Republic", an entity which technically existed only between 1919 and 1922, and was internationally recognised by only the Soviet Union - though now, persumably, 80 years late by the United Kingdom.
