Madam, - In defending Fidel Castro's Cuba, and its healthcare, from Newton Emerson's satire of August 10th, Suzie Murray tells us that "several aspects of the Cuban state leave room for improvement" (August 14th).
Would that include the 73,000 people killed by the Cuban state over the period 1959-1987, according to Prof R.J. Rummel, the noted expert on democide (the killing of people by their government), and God knows how many others since then? Not a great advertisment for Cuban "healthcare". - Yours, etc,
TONY ALLWRIGHT, Killiney, Co Dublin.
