JEAN O'CONNOR,
Sir, - My 87-year-old mother was booked with Ryanair from Bristol to Dublin last Monday on the 9.40 p.m. flight. While she had her passport with her, it was out of date and Ryanair refused to let her travel. The Ryanair desk attendant appealed to the duty manager in Dublin to allow her fly because of her age but was overruled.
When we were contacted we attempted to contact Ryanair at Dublin airport but there is no emergency number and their normal phone informed us the office was open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We contacted Aer Rianta, who were sympathetic and tried to contact Ryanair personnel for us without success. My mother was left in a deserted Bristol airport for hours afterwards while we contacted my sister to return and collect her.
If the Ryanair executives have mothers, then I hope they are never forced to travel with Ryanair. - Yours, etc.,
JEAN O'CONNOR, Greystones, Co Wicklow.
