Sir, Having recently read the excellent and very pertinent booklet One City Two Tiers by the Cherry Orchard Faith and Justice Group, I was reminded of the truth of its theme when I was leaving somebody home to the Westbourne Estate in Clondalkin. The last long stretch of the New Nangor Road, from the Oldbawn junction, was in total darkness without any street lighting whatsoever.
Apparently, the ESB blamed the Dublin Corporation for this neglect, and the Corporation seemingly blames the ESB. I wonder, if this were in Foxrock, how long the road would remain unlit.
Do we have to wait for a rape or a murder before some action is taken, or would an imminent general or by election spur some people into more urgent action? If the "One City Two Tiers" slogan ever needed proof of its validity, this is it! - Yours, etc.,
Healthfield Road,
Terenure,
Dublin 6.
