Sir, - The terrifying increase in drink-related savagery raises many questions, particularly regarding the responsibilities of drink companies, marketing companies, publicans and drinkers. But there is a more fundamental question. What are young people running from? Why, in an age when they have never had so much wealth, so much freedom and so much opportunity, do they need to anaesthetise themselves every weekend and end up doing the things they do? It seems to me that the search for answers to that question is the number one issue for our society.
