Sir, - Could I urge the Taoiseach, in selecting a date for the general election, to pick a Saturday or Sunday? This would facilitate significant numbers of young people and students who work away from home and could return at the weekend to vote.
The Tipperary South by-election last year was held on a Saturday and there was an increased turnout on the previous by-election in that constituency. Eleven of the other 14 EU member-states hold their national ballots at weekends. - Yours, etc.,
