WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE

Sir, - Once again, we are fast approaching the annual "drought" season. Once again, we the ordinary people of Ireland - will be asked to do our bit and save water. Don't run the water when washing your teeth; don't dare water the garden.

But, thanks to Marion Finucane's excellent programme, we have found out that our efforts are in vain. The big water wasters are ignored. Men's urinals everywhere in Ireland are flushed every two minutes day and night. Never mind that office blocks or schools or factories are rarely occupied more than ten or twelve hours a day, the regular flushing goes on.

Perfectly good, clean, scarce water passes uselessly through the system. It not only drains our water reserves but burdens our pumping and sewage system. Did no one in authority hear the programme? Is no one, even in an election year, going to do anything? Yours, etc.,
