Sir, - Outside Sydney Parade DART station there is a wheelchair signidentifying the station as one where service to mobility-impairedtravellers is provided
There is indeed such a service for passengers who use the northboundplatform. However, anyone who arrives at the southbound platform isfaced there with a padlocked gate. There are two possibilities: eithernegotiate the steep footbridge, or, for those who know the "system",try to attract the attention of the booking office clerk, who will verykindly throw across the rails the key to the padlock.
Our residents' association has been trying to persuade Irish Rail toimprove on this "system" . We think our request for an electric releaselock together with appropriate signs indicating its existence, ismodest and feasible. Even so, it is clear Irish Rail is "dragging itswheels".
On behalf of the elderly, the disabled, the parents with smallchildren, those in wheelchairs, we appeal to Irish Rail to expeditethis matter. The wheelchair signs outside the station would then bejustified. - Yours, etc.,
