Madam, - When I recently purchased some dried yeast, I noticed that the price had increased by 25 per cent since the previous purchase, six months ago.
When I examined the package, I found that the manufacturer was French but the product had come to Ireland via an English agent. I do not believe that inflation has reached this magnitude in France, so that it struck me that the yeast might have been the victim of the vagaries of the euro-sterling relationship; and that the agent might be working on the principle of "heads I win, tails the Irish customer loses".
That set me to wondering how many other items come here via Britain (unnecessarily); and could this be a factor in our inflation? - Yours, etc.,
