Sir, - I have just seen the hard-hitting ad for not wearing seat belts in a car crash, and I'm always amazed by the amount of children (and adults) allowed to travel unrestrained in back seats of cars, also up front in vans, sometimes travelling at speed and often tailgating the car in front.
Not only that, a lot of adults smoke in cars, thereby putting their children, albeit indirectly, at a twofold risk of death or injury. Also I'm sure it would be beneficial if, when reporting fatalities or injuries in car crashes, it was indicated whether or not the victims were wearing seat belts. - Yours, etc.,
P. Campbell, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
