Pin interest

A reader contacted us after his sister’s debit card was stolen on February 26th.

“She later got a letter from her bank outlining over €5000 worth of goods and services, purchased using the card without her pin. Her account has since been credited with the monies taken by the criminals.

“We have spoken to many people about this and we were both astonished, that, so few of them knew, that a card with a €15 no-pin limit could be used to purchase this amount of goods and services.”

This reader also sent us a
list of the purchases. We contacted a banking source who said that what had most likely happened was that the debit card was cloned and a new pin attached to it which allowed the multiple transactions to take place.
