People Before Profit-Solidarity’s Ruth Coppinger and Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman secured the 4th and 5th seats in the final count of the Dublin West constituency.
Fianna Fáil deputy leader Jack Chambers topped the poll, securing 21.3 per cent of the vote in the first count, and getting will above the required quota of 7,373. Sinn Féin’s Paul Donnelly was also elected on the first count with 17.4 per cent of first preference votes.
Fine Gael Senator Emer Currie, Leo Varadkar’s 2020 running mate, was elected on the second count in Phibblestown Community Centre which was announced shortly before 10pm on Saturday.
Eleven additional counts followed throughout Sunday, with both Ms Coppinger and Mr O’Gorman securing seats at 7.45pm.
Aontú's Ellen Troy was eliminated in the 13th count. The returning officer confirmed the names of the five elected officials shortly before 8pm.
Roderic O’Gorman is the only Green Party member to be election in the 2024 general election.
With a population of 138,547, Dublin West is one of the fastest growing constituencies in the country. The area consists of a mix of well-off suburbs like Castleknock and more disadvantaged areas like Corduff. The housing crisis was the major issue during the election campaign followed by childcare, school places, transport links and disability services.
