Fine Gael’s Martin Heydon will serve in the 34th Dáil, his forth term as a TD.

Mr Heydon, a 46-year-old south Kildare native, was first elected to the Dáil in 2011 when he topped the poll in Kildare South. He was re-elected in 2016 and 2020.

He entered politics on joining Fine Gael in 2008, and served as a county councillor from 2009 to his election to the Dáil. From 2016 to 2020, he was chair of the Fine Gael parliamentary party.

He comes from a farming background – he is an alumus of Kildalton Agricultural College – and in the last Government, he served at Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Mr Heydon is married to former Kildare Gaelic footballer Brianne Leahy, a two-time All Star winner. They have four children together. Mr Heydon lives outside the village of Kilcullen.
